Various reasons might explain your demotivation, such as burnout, fear of failure or lack of clear direction. However, today, I am here to be your cheerleader.

The origin of the word motivation is motive or to have a reason or reasons for doing something or behaving in a certain way. Therefore, when feeling demotivated, you may lose sight of the reason for doing something.

Here are seven actions to get motivated again. I suggest you implement the ones most relevant to your situation:

  1. Get crystal clear about your path by defining the steps you need to take to reach your destination because any road can get you there. I believe it is important to clarify your plan because, without it, you are planning to fail. In addition, set clear intentions to take the necessary steps towards your goal achievement.
  2. Return to your ‘why.’ Ask yourself: why does your chosen goal matter to you? Why do you strive to achieve it? Why are you doing it? Reflecting on this can reignite your motivation.  I talked extensively about knowing your ‘why’ in episode 331 of The Everyday Life Balance Show, entitled: “7 Levels Deep: Unveiling The Heart Of Your Goals”
  3. Change your state by taking a break. If you have been working relentlessly, stepping back can refresh your mind and motivation.
  4. Recharge your batteries by introducing an exercise routine. Physical activity will uplift your mind and body by stimulating serotonin, the feel-good hormone. Recharging your batteries makes sense if you have been sitting for hours on end in front of the computer.
  5. Build authentic confidence by cultivating a never-give-up attitude. You build authentic confidence when you have trust in your abilities and faith that you will reach your destination no matter how challenging the journey.
  6. Celebrate your small victories. A friend of mine confided that when he starts a new project, he procrastinates because he sees the whole mountain and feels overwhelmed by the work ahead. If this is you, instead of feeling overwhelmed by the entire journey, focus on taking one step at a time and celebrate each achievement to boost your motivation.
  7. Share your goal with like-minded people. Joining a community of goal achievers or a mastermind group can provide valuable support, new perspectives and accountability. 

I hope these seven actions you can take now will help you stay motivated. Remember, you do not know until you try.
