Episode 333: Clarify, Envision, Achieve: Your Pathway To Purposeful Change

Hello, dear listeners. Welcome back to "The Everyday Life Balance Show." I am your host, Pascale Gibon, your guide on the journey to a fulfilling life. 

If you feel stuck or unsure of your direction, this episode is especially for you. Indeed, we delve, in episode 333, into a strategy that will help you create change when you feel stuck and uncertain. In addition, it will ensure you are moving purposefully towards your dreams with more clarity.

First, let me clarify what purposeful change is. It is an intentional shift in behaviour, mindset, or direction in life that aligns with our core values, goals, and authentic self. It is a change that is not random or accidental. It is instead chosen and directed by a deep sense of meaning and intention.

This kind of change usually arises from introspection and self-awareness, often in response to an awakening or a desire for personal growth, improvement, or fulfilment. 

Purposeful change is thoughtful and strategic - it involves setting clear objectives and taking conscious steps towards achieving them, ensuring that each action contributes to a larger, overarching purpose or mission.

Purposeful change is, therefore, a proactive approach to living that empowers us to create the life we envision rather than being passively shaped by external circumstances. It enables us to align our decisions with our beliefs, core values, and aspirations and take accountability for our chosen path in life. Purposeful change leads to a more authentic and satisfying existence because it reflects our heartfelt desires and aspirations rather than fleeting impulses or external pressures.

  • The first step towards making purposeful change is to clarify your purpose or to put it another way to discover Your 'WHY':

Your purpose is the driving force and the compelling reason that ignites your passion and directs your actions. Your purpose is your 'WHY':

  • Why are you here? This question is relevant for the listeners who have awakened to a sense of mission.
  • What infuses your life with meaning? 
  • Why are you pursuing a particular path?
  • What activities do you love and find yourself drawn to the most?

When you can answer these questions, you connect with the current of life that allows you to flow with grace and ease.

When Anita Roddick founded the Body Shop in 1976, her purpose was to lead with the idea that business could be a force for good. The Body Shop is committed to creating a more beautiful and fair world through its brand. 

Knowing your purpose drives everything you do.

  • The second step towards making purposeful change is to clarify your vision. Your vision is the 'WHAT' or what you want to achieve:

Now, let us expand your purpose into a vision — your 'WHAT.' It is the blueprint of your future, the vivid image that occupies your mind, and the manifestation of your purpose. 

Here we ask:

  • What do you want to create?
  • What does the embodiment of your dreams look like?

Let us do an exercise:

Just imagine one year from now, you have achieved your goal. Take a few deep breaths and project yourself into the future as if you have accomplished your goal. What do you see, hear and feel? 

Maintain a strong connection with your vision until you have formed a clear picture.

One of my mentors, Bob Proctor, stated:

"Vision is the key connector between one's daily goals and one's lifetime purpose."

Indeed, your vision bridges today with your ultimate aspirations.

  • The third step towards making purposeful change is your goals or mapping your 'HOW':

Your goals represent the tangible steps - your 'HOW.' They are the milestones you will reach as you journey towards your vision. Consider what goals will bring your vision to life. They are your roadmap, giving you clarity and focus. When you outline specific, actionable steps, you turn your vision into a reality.

Your goal mapping is a clear, actionable plan that guides you through defining, pursuing, and achieving your objectives.

Here is a straightforward framework called the “C.L.E.A.R Goals" method so that you align your vision with your daily actions. This framework takes you from conception to realization.

C - Clarify Your Vision:

Start with a broad vision of what you want to achieve. This vision should be inspiring and aligned with your values and purpose.

L - List Specific Goals:

Break down your vision into specific, measurable goals. These should be clear and concise statements that define what success looks like.

E - Establish Actions:

For each goal, list the actions needed to achieve it. These should be tasks that can be scheduled and tracked.

A - Assign Accountability:

Determine how you will hold yourself accountable. It could be through regular check-ins, a goal-tracking app, or an accountability partner.

R - Review and Reflect:

Set aside regular times to review your progress towards your goals. Reflect on what is working and what is not, and make adjustments as needed.

Here are six ways you can optimise the “C.L.E.A.R Goals” method:

  1. Set aside planning time: Choose a time free from distractions to work through this framework.
  2. Use the 'CLEAR Goals' worksheet: Create a worksheet or journal page for each goal, following the 'CLEAR' structure that is Vision, specific goals, purpose-driven actions, accountability and progress.
  3. Prioritise: If you have multiple goals, prioritise them based on their importance and urgency.
  4. Set deadlines: Assign realistic deadlines to each action and overall goals.
  5. Visualise success: Regularly visualize achieving your goals to maintain motivation and revisit your Why, your purpose.
  6. Celebrate milestones: I am a big believer of celebrating your progress. Acknowledge and always celebrate your progress. You will realise that you have accomplished more than you thought.

 

I have explained in this episode the Clarify, Envision, Achieve process, your pathway to purposeful change. Now, let us see how you can apply this process with intention:

  1. Define your purpose. Ask yourself: “What is my 'WHY’?” What is the Why behind your intention to accomplish a particular goal? I outlined the 7-level deep exercise in episode 331 if you want to do this exercise in more depth.
  2. Clarify your vision. Hold it in your mind as your 'WHAT,’ What you are moving towards.
  3. Set your goals. These are your 'HOW' - the steps you will take to your vision.

This approach is not just theoretical; it is a practical guide to bring about the change you seek. It is about alignment and action. The path to fulfilment becomes clear when purpose, vision, and goals are harmonious.

Creating an effective process for change involves understanding your 'WHY,' visualizing your 'WHAT,' and setting your 'HOW.' Remember, you are not just aimlessly wandering. You are on a purpose-driven path, equipped with clarity and direction.
